GLOVERS NEWS: Great FA Cup win for Yeovil Town

YEOVIL Town pulled off a brilliant 1-0 victory over Southend United at Huish Park on Saturday (November 4, 2017) in the FA Cup First Round.

It might not go down in the annals of Glovers’ history as one of the club’s greatest giant-killing feats in the FA Cup, but it certainly was a big win for Darren Way’s men.

Yeovil went into the game down in 17th place in the Sky Bet League Two with their visitors sitting neatly in 11th spot in the League One table.

And Yeovil had the added problem of going into the game without two of their most influential players – strikers Francois Zoko and Olufela Olomola, due to suspension following their double sending-off the previous weekend in the 3-0 League Two success over Stevenage Borough.

But the Glovers worked hard and they got the all-important goal, which proved to be the winner, on the half-hour mark.

Otis Khan successfully converted a penalty which had been awarded after striker Sam Surridge had been fouled inside the box.

A crowd of 2,079 was at Huish Park for the match.

Yeovil can now look forward to the Second Round draw and the win will give them renewed confidence in their battle to get away from the wrong end of the League Two table.
