Football: Burnley 2, Yeovil Town 0: Away day blues for Glovers

YEOVIL Town suffered a 2-0 defeat this afternoon at Burnley in the Sky Bet Championship.

The damage was done midway through the second period when Keith Treacy struck in the 74th minute and then Sam Vokes doubled Burnley’s advantage five minutes later.

The defeat will comes as a blow for Yeovil as Sky Sports summariser Iain Dowie, who was reporting from Turf Moor, said the opening goal had come with the Glovers in control of the proceedings.

But how many times has that happened in football? And there is no doubt that it will happen again in football where the team in ascendency suddenly finds themselves on the backfoot and losing.Football: Burnley 2, Yeovil Town 0: Away day blues for Glovers

The Glovers went into the game with two new goalkeepers in the squad.

As widely-rumoured Manchester United youngster Sam Johnstone, 20, has joined the Glovers on a three-month loan and took his place in between the posts in the absence of broken hand victim Marek Stech, while Yeovil have also signed former Coventry City and Northampton Town keeper Chris Dunn, 25, on a one-year contract.

Some might say it could be classed as bad luck for goalkeeping coach Gareth Stewart who did not do a bad job last week when he was called into the action against Birmingham City following Stech’s early withdrawal from proceedings.

Also coming into the team was midfielder Liam Davis with Sam Foley dropping to the bench.

On the bench for Yeovil was new loan signing, midfielder Joe Ralls, from Cardiff City, and he was introduced to the fray in the closing stages at the expense of Kevin Dawson.

Radio commentators said that the performances of both teams was below Championship standard, but supporters know only too well that that will sometimes happen; after all, even the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal have the occasional off days where their displays do not live up to their Premier League superstar billing.

But that’s football and Yeovil will put this defeat quickly behind them and look forward to next Saturday’s (August 24, 2013) return to Huish Park where they will face Derby County.

Three games down, 43 games to go and 18th spot in The Championship – no need to push any panic buttons just yet at Huish Park.

Yeovil Town team: Sam Johnstone; Luke Ayling; Byron Webster; Dan Seaborne; Alan Tate (Michael Ngoo 65mins); Joe Edwards; Kevin Dawson (Joe Ralls 82); Ed Upson; Liam Davis; James Hayter (Sam Hoskins 65). Subs not used: Chris Dunn; Jamie McAllister; Sam Foley; Joel Grant.
