He was introduced to the fray as a 68th minute replacement for Wes Hoolahan, of Norwich City, at the Cardiff City Stadium in front of a 20,000 crowd.

Madden had a couple of cracks at goal, but could not beat Wales keeper Boaz Myhill, of West Bromwich Albion.

The game finished in a 0-0 stalemate.

On the bench for Wales was goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey who earlier this week agreed to come to Huish Park as a replacement for the Glovers’ injured number one Marek Stech.

It means that tonight Hennessey and Madden met for the first time as rivals, tomorrow they will meet up again as team-mates in readiness for Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship match at Burnley.

But many congratulations to Paddy Madden on his international debut – a great honour for the player and a great honour for Yeovil Town.
