GLOVERS NEWS: New striker Alex Fisher looks forward to Yeovil Town challenge

NEW Yeovil Town striker Alex Fisher is looking forward to getting “stuck in” and doing his bit to help secure the Glovers’ future in the Football League.

The 27-year-old joined the Glovers on Friday (January 26, 2018) from Scottish Premiership outfit Motherwell on a free transfer and made his debut as a second-half substitute in Yeovil’s FA Cup Fourth Round clash with Manchester United at Huish Park.

Now Fisher, who has recovered from a whirlwind few days, has taken to social networking Twitter to thank everyone at Yeovil for making him feel welcome.

“I’m excited to start a new challenge with Yeovil and relish the opportunity ahead,” he said. “Thank you to the club and fans for the warm welcome.

“I was proud to make my debut against Man Utd the other night and I look forward to getting stuck into the league this week.”

Fans will probably next see Fisher, who has signed a one-and-a-half year contract with the Glovers, on Tuesday (January 30, 2018) in a vital Sky Bet League Two fixture when Yeovil play host to Grimsby Town at Huish Park in a 7.45pm kick-off.

London-born Fisher joined Motherwell after scoring eight goals in nine matches for Inverness Caledonian Thistle at the end of the 2016-17 SPL season.

A product of Oxford United’s youth setup, the forward left the U’s to become part of the Glenn Hoddle Academy and through the system signed for Jerez Industrial.

He moved on to the Belgian Second Division with KVK Tienen before further spells in Belgium with KRC Mechelen and KSK Heist.

Following a short stint in Italy with AC Monza Brianza 1912, Fisher returned to England, signing for Mansfield Town.

Sixteen appearances later, the big frontman was snapped up by Torquay United and his impressive performances led to a move north of the border.

Fisher has featured 19 times for Motherwell this season and will now ply his trade in Somerset until the end of the 2018-19 campaign.

But he will definitely be the answer to a Yeovil Town quiz question in years to come: Which striker made their debut for Yeovil Town against Manchester United in the FA Cup in January 2018?

It will be similar to a Manchester United quiz question in years to come: Which team did Alexis Sanchez make his debut for Manchester United against in the FA Cup in January 2018?

Similar questions, but their salaries will be worlds apart.
