GLOVERS NEWS: Cup success for Yeovil Town

YEOVIL Town enjoyed a 3-1 success at Exeter City on Tuesday (August 29, 2017) night in their first EFL Trophy group stage match of the season.

Sam Surridge gave Yeovil the lead in the 46th minute and then two quick goals from Rhys Browne and Otis Khan on 75 minutes and 78 minutes respectively sealed the tie.

Jack Sparkes got a goal back for the home side with ten minutes remaining, but Yeovil held out for the win.

A total of 159 Yeovil Town fans were at St James Park for the match in a crowd of 1,509 and they would have been buoyed by the performance.

The competition may be much-maligned by many supporters, but a "win is a win" and will only help to boost confidence among the Yeovil ranks.

But the only negative from the game was that on-loan striker Olufela Olomola went off in the first-half with an apparent dead leg. Hopefully the injury will not be too bad.

The next EFL Trophy group game is on Tuesday, October 25, 2017, when Chelsea Under-21s are the visitors to Huish Park in a 7.45pm kick-off.

Plymouth Argyle are at Huish Park for the third group game on Tuesday, November 28, 2017, also in a 7.45pm kick-off.

Yeovil are back in Sky Bet League Two action on Saturday (September 2, 2017) with an away trip to Crawley Town.
