GLOVERS NEWS: Really? Yeovil Town’s match day experience is voted in Top 40 in England

YEOVIL Town Football Club’s Huish Park stadium has – amazingly – been ranked inside the Top 40 out of the 92 Football League clubs for “match day experience” by a national magazine.

Writer Chris Flanagan has completed a survey – based on his own personal visits – of the 92 clubs in the Premier League and Football League to find which ground has the best atmosphere, amazing architecture and perfect view.

And he has put Yeovil Town’s Huish Park in at 39th on his list of match day experiences and given a “quirk factor” of 3 out of 5.

He describes Huish Park for visitors as a “leafy Somerset away day” and its best feature was “old-school terrace for away end.”

And its worst feature as “steelwork behind away end suggests it’s still only half-built, plus no roof.”

What makes the FourFourTwo poll even more amazing from a Yeovil Town perspective is the fact that they feature higher up the poll than other clubs such as West Ham United (40th), Bristol City (41st), Crystal Palace (45th), Bristol Rovers (46th), MK Dons (47th), Ipswich Town (55th), Plymouth Argyle (64th), Millwall (75th), Swindon Town (79th), Exeter City (87th) and bottom of the pile Coventry City (92nd).

Yeovil’s lofty position inside the Top 40 is in complete contrast to what a lot of Glovers’ supporters have been saying in recent times - that the match day experience at Huish Park is poor and needs to be improved if the fans are going to return.

The atmosphere at Huish Park last Saturday (April 1, 2017) for Yeovil’s League Two game with Carlisle United was virtually non-existent – bar the boos from the Glovers’ fans for another disappointing performance and the cheers from the visiting away fans celebrating a 2-0 success.

Top of the chart based on Flanagan’s match day experiences, for those interested, was West Bromwich Albion. Second is Sheffield United, third is Bradford City, fourth Liverpool and fifth Manchester United.
