GLOVERS NEWS: Yeovil Town’s Football League Top Dozen Draws – with some feeling like victories and some feeling like defeats!

YEOVIL Town’s amazing and utterly shambolic 3-3 draw at Exeter City on Saturday (March 25, 2017) will rank right up there among the “best” of those drawn games the Glovers have had in the Football League where they have ended up with a share of the spoils.

The 3-3 draw at St James’ Park – which was the Glovers’ 16h in the 2016-17 season, the highest number of stalemates they have had in the Football League since joining in 2003-04 – saw Yeovil throw away a 3-0 lead with 88 minutes on the clock.

But Yeovil have suffered similar disappointments in their Football League history, as well as having the ball on the other foot where they have come back from the dead to gain a point.

Here we take a look at Yeovil Town’s Top Dirty (and Happy) Dozen Draws since joining the Football League.

12: Yeovil Town 2, AFC Bournemouth 2 – April 23, 2011: Yeovil Town were 2-0 down in this League One clash with AFC Bournemouth at Huish Park with two goals from Danny Ings on 35 and 68 minutes. But Yeovil stormed back in the final five minutes to draw 2-2 thanks to an Adam Virgo penalty on 86 minutes and a Shaun MacDonald effort on 90 minutes.

11: Leyton Orient 2, Yeovil Town 2 – April 21, 2012: Yeovil Town guaranteed League One football for another season with a 2-2 draw at Leyton Orient. Their hosts had gone 2-0 up with two goals from Kevin Lisbie on 23 and 73 minutes. But Yeovil responded when Andy Williams netted on 82 minutes and then Jonathan Obika equalised on 90 minutes.

10: Yeovil Town 1, Tranmere Rovers 1 – September 1, 2007: Yeovil Town were heading for a victory in this League One clash thanks to Marcus Stewart’s 57th minute goal, but Tranmere snatched a last gasp equaliser in the sixth minute of stoppage time right at the death through Steve Davies.

09: Yeovil Town 1, Charlton Athletic 1 – November 21, 2009: Not so much the actual outcome of the match in this League One fixture – but the horrific weather conditions this game was played in with driving rain and strong winds. Yeovil opened the scoring through Jonathan Obika on 44 minutes, with Akpo Sodje replying for Charlton on 56 minutes.GLOVERS NEWS: Yeovil Town’s Football League Top Dozen Draws – with some feeling like victories and some feeling like defeats! 08: Hull City 0, Yeovil Town 0 – November 22, 2003: This League Two encounter was one of those games where you look at the final score and think how did it stay 0-0? The simple answer was Yeovil Town goalkeeper Chris Weale – he brought off a number of fantastic saves to keep Hull City at bay. The match – for the record – was also played on the same day as when England won the Rugby World Cup with that dramatic last-gasp kick from Johnny Wilkinson.

07: Reading 1, Yeovil Town 1 – March 1, 2014: Yeovil Town held on for a point in this Championship match at Reading despite having three players – Byron Webster, Joe Ralls and Kieffer Moore – all sent-off during the afternoon at the Madjeski Stadium. Yeovil had taken the lead on 20 minutes through Shane Duffy, but Reading had equalised on 69 minutes, just moments after Webster had been sent off, through an unfortunate John Lundstram own goal. Yeovil’s hopes of getting a point were not helped when Ralls (71 minutes) and Moore (88 minutes) were shown red cards as well, but the Glovers held firm.

06: Bristol Rovers 2, Yeovil Town 2 – October 19, 2004: A League Two game which saw Yeovil Town throw away a 2-0 lead against the nine men of Bristol Rovers. Yeovil had gone 1-0 up through Paul Terry on 27 minutes and things went from bad to worse for Rovers when both Dave Savage and Steve Elliott were sent-off on the stroke of half-time for violent conduct. Yeovil doubled their lead on 57 minutes when Gavin Williams netted. But Rovers hit back – firstly through James Hunt on 64 minutes to reduce the deficit to 2-1 and then Junior Agogo scored on 86 minutes to complete a remarkable comeback and leave Yeovil Town deflated.GLOVERS NEWS: Yeovil Town’s Football League Top Dozen Draws – with some feeling like victories and some feeling like defeats! 05: Leicester City 1, Yeovil Town 1 – March 25, 2014: A Leicester City side boasting names such as Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez, Danny Drinkwater and Wes Morgan had to rely on a stoppage time goal from keeper Kasper Schmeichel to gain a point in this Championship fixture. Joe Ralls had given Yeovil Town the lead on 22 minutes and they were heading for a much-needed win, but Schmeichel popped up to break their hearts.

04: Yeovil Town 2, Hereford United 2 – April 21, 2009: The stoppage time equaliser from goalkeeper Chris Weale will rank as one of Yeovil Town’s favourite Football League goals! Hereford United had gone 2-0 up in this League One encounter at Huish Park with goals from Jennison Myrie-Williams on 27 minutes and Stephen Guinan on 61 minutes. But Luke Rodgers reduced the deficit for Yeovil Town on 78 minutes and then goalkeeper Weale popped up at the death to head home a dramatic last-gasp equaliser.

03: Yeovil Town 3, Norwich City 3 – December 12, 2009: An amazing League One game at Huish Park where Yeovil Town came back from 2-1 down to lead 3-2 right at the death only for visiting Norwich City to still have time to claw back a point. Yeovil took the lead on 21 minutes through Dean Bowditch, only for Chris Martin to draw Norwich level on 60 minutes and then Gary Doherty put them ahead five minutes later. Shaun MacDonald equalised for the Glovers on 67 minutes and Jonathan Obika put Yeovil ahead on 90 minutes. But Gary Doherty had the last laugh for Norwich when he too netted in stoppage time to produce a 3-3 draw.

02: Wigan Athletic 3, Yeovil Town 3 – March 18, 2014: A crazy night at Wigan Athletic in the Championship when Yeovil Town snatched a point after seemingly throwing away a victory. Nick Powell had given Wigan the lead on 56 minutes but Ishmael Miller pounced for Yeovil to draw level on 82 minutes. Miller netted again to put Yeovil 2-1 up on 85 minutes, but then James McArthur equalised for the hosts on 86 minutes and they then went 3-2 up on 88 minutes through a Byron Webster own goal. But Yeovil were not done just yet and Luke Ayling scored in stoppage time to earn Yeovil Town a share of the spoils.

01: Exeter City 3, Yeovil Town 3 – March 25, 2017: Yeovil Town were 3-0 up on 88 minutes and heading for a comfortable win in this League Two fixture thanks to goals from Francois Zoko, Shayon Harrison and Alex Lacey. But Exeter had other ideas when David Wheeler made it 3-1 on 88 minutes and then Troy Brown made it 3-2 in stoppage time and was quickly followed by an equaliser from former Yeovil striker Reuben Reid. Arguably Yeovil’s most depressing draw where they saw a virtually assured win wiped out in a few panic-stricken minutes at the end of the game.
