THE Pen Mill Lionesses youth girls’ football team from Yeovil has been presented with a new kit – thanks to the English Football League and Wickes.

The EFL teamed up with Wickes to deliver a nationwide competition for junior football teams to win a full team kit.

Across all 72 clubs, all junior teams had to do was explain why they deserved the kit, with Pen Mill Lionesses the lucky winners in Yeovil.

The Lionesses received a tour of Yeovil Town FC’s Huish Park stadium - including a talk from manager Darren Way in the home dressing room.

Local Wickes store manager Jason Way as well as Kevin Dawson, Tom Eaves and Alex Lawless were also on hand to deliver the new kit.

A EFL spokesman said: “Local teams are often underfunded and can’t afford kit or training equipment so Wickes is lending a helping hand by giving these teams free kit, helping support grass roots football and kick starting the development of the footballers of tomorrow.”

The kit includes 13 outfield football kits including shirts, shorts and socks, 2 goalkeeper kits including shirts, shorts, socks and gloves, 2 Mitre Hyperseam footballs, 15 training bibs, 1 agility & speed sets, 1 bench jacket and 16 tickets to watch a Glovers match of their choice.

A Yeovil Town FC spokesman said: “We look forward to welcoming Pen Mill Lionesses to Huish Park once again, and wish them all the best for the season in their new kit!”
