GLOVERS FLASHBACK FRIDAY: Northwich Victoria 1, Yeovil Town 4 – March 17, 1990

WELCOME to the Glovers Flashback Friday feature where we look back at a Yeovil Town game on this day in history from down the years.

We start this feature going back 27 years to March 17, 1990, and Yeovil Town’s excellent 4-1 win at Northwich Victoria in the GM Vauxhall Conference.

Yeovil stormed to success with goals from Barry Blackman, Andy Wallace (two) and Nicky Dent and it was the Glovers’ 12th win of the 1989-90 season.

The Glovers went on to finish a respectable seventh in the Conference table that season with Darlington the champions by two points from runners-up Barnet.

Yeovil might have finished even higher in the table had they been able to turn a few of the eight home draws they managed during the season into wins.

It was an emotional campaign for the Glovers with it being the last at the famous sloping pitch at Huish which culminated in a 1-0 success over Telford United on May 5, 1990.

Highest appearances makers in the 1989-90 season for Yeovil were Mark Shail with 55 games, Mickey Spencer and Tiv Lowe with 52 apiece, Robbie Carroll with 49 and Peter Conning with 48.

Top goal scorers for that season were Mickey Spencer and Robbie Carroll with 16 goals each, while Andy Wallace weighed-in with 13.
