GLOVERS NEWS: Much-needed win for Yeovil Town

SECOND-HALF goals by defenders Nathan Smith and Alex Lacey gave Yeovil Town a much-needed win on Tuesday (January 31, 2017) against Sky Bet League Two title-chasers Plymouth Argyle at Huish Park.

Following a goalless first-half at a rain-soaked Huish Park the game opened up in the second period and Smith put the Glovers 1-0 up on 62 minutes from close range following a corner.

Lacey then doubled Yeovil’s lead within the space of two minutes when he got a touch on a Matty Dolan free-kick.

That meant Plymouth had to go on the attack in a bid to get back into the game and they reduced the deficit on 77 minutes when former Yeovil defender Jakub Sokolik scored.

But Yeovil held on for the three points – the side’s first league win since the 5-0 thrashing of Crawley Town at Huish Park back on December 3, 2016. The result pushed Glovers up to 15th in the League Two table.
