GLOVERS NEWS: Yeovil Town to unite with Blackpool fans in show of solidarity

THE chairman of the Glovers Trust supporters’ group has asked Yeovil Town fans to support their Blackpool counterparts in their ongoing protests towards the club’s owners at Bloomfield Road on Saturday (January 21, 2017).

Yeovil Town travel to face Blackpool in the Sky Bet League Two in a 3pm kick-off with the home fans continuing a campaign of protest against the Oyston family.

Blackpool have suffered a terrible downturn in fortunes in recent years which saw them drop down into League Two last summer – just six years after winning the Championship Play-Off Final to gain promotion to the Premier League.GLOVERS NEWS: Yeovil Town to unite with Blackpool fans in show of solidarity

The Blackpool Supporters’ Trust – angry at how the club is being run and wondering where all the revenue that was generated from their season in the Premier League of 2010-11 had gone - has called on its fans to stay away from home games or those who do go to matches to resist from buying programmes or refreshments.

The Trust has asked Yeovil Town fans to do the same at the League Two game on Saturday with a message of “join us in the spirit of fans united and show solidarity.”

Chairman of the Glovers Trust, Brendon Owen, who will be at Blackpool for the match, has sent his opposite number a message of support.

“I would make a request to our members to assist their cause by not buying any items of food or a programme at the ground on Saturday,” said Brendon.

“This is a simple act of solidarity with fellow football supporters, some of whom have been sued in court for up to £20,000 each by those who run that club. This has put a great strain on people whose only 'crime' was to express anti-owner opinions on social media.

“Fortunately the courts are dismissing these cases as they come up but the worry on the families of fans has been immense. If you feel able to support the Blackpool Supporters Trust it would be most welcome.”

Brendon added: “The chairman of the Blackpool Supporters’ Trust has informed me that they will be holding an informal protest outside the ground from 2.15pm and will hand out leaflets to away supporters to explain their situation.”

Yeovil fans have been invited to join the Blackpool supporters to show a display of solidarity among club rivalries.
