GLOVERS NEWS: Yeovil Town sink into the relegation zone

THE corresponding weekend of the League Two last season saw Yeovil Town fall to a defeat at Huish Park and with it a drop into the relegation zone. Twelve months on and the Glovers slipped to another home defeat and now this evening (Saturday, September 3, 2015) sit once again in the bottom two of the table.

Last season they threw away a two-goal lead to lose 4-2 against Morecambe on Saturday, September 5, 2015, and this afternoon they went down 3-0 against visiting Blackpool at a wet and windy Huish Park.

After a goalless opening first-half Blackpool turned the screw on Yeovil and opened the scoring on 59 minutes when Colin Daniel scored a long-range 30-yard belter past Glovers’ keeper Artur Krysiak.

Yeovil’s attack play was disappointing and never really looked like troubling the visitors and it was no surprise when Blackpool extended their lead on 83 minutes when Daniel netted his second of the afternoon.

Blackpool could afford to miss a penalty kick when Armand Gnanduillet put his effort well over the bar, but he made amends on 87 minutes with a simple finish from close range.

The boos rang out around Huish Park at the end of the game and already – just six matches into the season – it looks as if it could be another tough campaign for the Glovers.

After picking up four points from their opening two games, they have now lost their last four having conceded nine goals and scoring just once.

More of a worry is that Yeovil have conceded 14 goals in their last four outings in league and cup outings – today’s 3-0 defeat at home to Blackpool, the 4-3 midweek win over Portsmouth in the EFL Trophy on August 30, 2016, the 4-1 league defeat at Doncaster Rovers on August 27, 2016, and the 4-0 reverse at Everton in the League Cup on August 23, 2016.

So Yeovil are leaking goals at one end and struggling to score goals at the other – worrying times for Glovers boss Darren Way.

But it is too early to start pushing panic buttons…..just yet.
