LEISURE: Ilminster Literary Festival 2016

LEISURE: Ilminster Literary Festival 2016

PLANS are in the pipeline for Ilminster to hold its first-ever Literary Festival next year.

A group of keen and committed representatives from Ilminster Rotary Club, Ilminster Arts Centre, the Warehouse Theatre, and Ilminster Town Council have joined the owners of the two independent bookshops in the town to plan the first Ilminster Literary Festival.

The event will run from June 1-9, 2016, leading up to The Ilminster Experience which immediately follows.

Chairman of the organising committee, BrendaLake, said: “This promises to be an exciting venture for the town and give young and old alike an opportunity to talk and listen to both new and established authors, editors and illustrators.”

Other planned events include a literary quiz, a dinner with well known speaker Anthony Gibson, an auctioneer talking about old and antiquarian books, children's storytellers, a poetry competition and much more.

Brenda has stressed that the festival will concentrate on local authors and local speakers to reinforce the message that there is a wealth of literary talent here in Somerset.

More details will follow later but this will be a festival for everyone!
