LEISURE: Night of panto magic celebrations

PANTOMIME groups from across Somerset gathered in Weston-super-Mare on Saturday (May 30, 2015) night for the annual Cinderella Awards - the county's very own Oscars for panto.

Around 330 people attended the awards night held at The Winter Gardens where the outright winner of the Cinderella Trophy for best pantomime went to Wells Little Theatre for its production of Cinderella.LEISURE: Night of panto magic celebrations

Runner-up for the main trophy was Wellington Pantomime Society for its production of Scrooge.

There was plenty of success on the night for groups from the South Somerset area.

Somerton Dramatic Society won a clutch of awards for its successful run of the Pirates of the Cary-bbean.

Esme Ellis took the Young Cameo of the Year award for her portrayal of Young Sparrowlegs in the show.

Megan Bradley and Becky Skinner won the award of Best Romantic Duet with Captain Sparrowlegs and Leo (Lizzie).

Somerton’s Margaret Lacey and Janet Corbett won the Best Properties award, while Megan Bradley took the Principal Boy of the Year award for Captain Sparrowlegs.LEISURE: Night of panto magic celebrations

The Best Director award was scooped by Ian Hurdman for Pirates of the Cary-bbean, while the Somerton Dramatic Society also won the Pint Pot Award for creating a big production on a small stage and the Spotlight Shield for the best village show.

There was plenty of success for the Yeovil Amateur Pantomime Society and its production of Aladdin at the Octagon Theatre.

Lisha Allen scooped the Young Goody of the Year award for her role as Slave of the Ring in the panto.

YAPS also won the Best Comedic Scene for If I Were Not Stuck in the Tomb.

The Crewkerne United Dramatic and Operatic Society – better known as CUDOS - won the award for Best Village Musicians in its panto of Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood.

The Castaway Theatre Group from Yeovil won the Best Junior Chorus award for its production of Babes in the Wood which was presented at the Swan Theatre.

Dan Jones, of the Chardstock Amateur Dramatic Society near Chard, won the Best Sound Effects award for Bo Peep and Boy Blue.
