GLOVERS NEWS: New manager Paul Sturrock can't wait to get started

NEW Yeovil Town manager Paul Sturrock is pleased that he has got a head start in his preparations for the Glovers’ and life in League Two.

Although Yeovil are not yet mathematically relegated from League One, it is only a matter of time and Sturrock has today (Thursday, April 9, 2015) said he will be looking to use the remaining five games of the 2014-15 season to assess the squad.

"I would have loved to have been involved in a relegation tussle," he said. "That's not going to happen, but these five games do give me a head start to prepare for next season."GLOVERS NEWS: New manager Paul Sturrock can't wait to get started

Sturrock, 58, who was unveiled to the media as the club’s new manager today at a 2pm press conference, said he knew that some players would not want to play in League Two and he would respect their views.

But he was looking forward to working with those players who showed the commitment to the club in the challenge ahead.

“This is my kind of job,” said the former Plymouth Argyle and Swindon Town manager. “I enjoy this kind of job.

“We have to steady the ship and have goals. I’m looking forward to getting my teeth into it.”

Sturrock joked it would have been nice to have been offered the manager’s job at “Real Madrid or Barcelona” but said it was a “no-brainer” for him when he was offered the role at Yeovil Town following a few years out of the game.

“I’ve got 40+ years in football – it’s in the blood. I’ve missed the buzz on Saturdays, the highs and lows of winning and losing football matches.

“I would like to win a few of the remaining games we’ve got this season just to give a wee taste of hope to the fans.

“I can’t wait to get started," added Sturrock, who as a player enjoyed success with Dundee United and Scotland.

It was confirmed that Terry Skiverton, who had been leading the team in recent months as acting manager, and coach Darren Way would remain at the club.

“It’s important to have those sorts of people around – people who love the club,” said Sturrock.
