GLOVERS NEWS: Super-sub James Hayter secures vital victory for Yeovil Town

YEOVIL Town left it late but they gained a vital three-point haul this afternoon with a 2-1 victory over Oldham Athletic in the Sky Bet League One.

Substitute James Hayter was the hero of the afternoon (Saturday, March 7, 2015) for the Glovers when he prodded home a 90th minute winner – having come on with 20 minutes to go to replace Kieffer Moore.GLOVERS NEWS: Super-sub James Hayter secures vital victory for Yeovil Town

Yeovil had dominated the first-half, but could not find the breakthrough and then, as so often happens, it was the visitors who took the lead on the stroke of the interval through Carl Winchester.

But the Glovers got back on level terms on 56 minutes when a long range shot from Adam Morgan was parried by the Oldham keeper Jake Kean and Joel Grant was on hand to tap home the rebound.

It gave the Yeovil fans in the 3,917 something to cheer about and give them hope, but the Glovers’ left it late before giving their fans the victory – courtesy of the experienced James Hayter following more excellent build-up play by Grant.

But there was still more drama at the end of seven minutes of added time when Oldham got the ball in the Glovers net, only for the referee to blow for a foul. Phew!

The result saw Yeovil remain on the bottom of the League One table, but they have crawled back points on the teams above them and now just three points away from safety – albeit it would be four due to goal difference.

Yeovil still have 11 games to go in which to claw themselves out of trouble and one has to wonder how important that James Hayter goal this afternoon might prove to be.
