GLOVERS NEWS: Yeovil Town 2, Gillingham 2

A DRAMATIC last-gasp penalty by Adam Morgan salvaged a point for Yeovil Town in their 2-2 draw with Gillingham at Huish Park.

Yeovil had been heading to a bad 2-1 defeat before Morgan netted the crucial spot-kick with time running out - his first ever goal for the Glovers since moving to the club in the second-half of the 2013-14 campaign from Liverpool.

Glovers skipper Joe Edwards was again missing due to action, so acting manager Terry Skiverton handed the captain’s armband to defender Byron Webster who has returned to Huish Park this week on loan from Millwall until the end of the season.

There were other debuts for new signings Josh Sheehan and Stephen Kingsley, both on loan from Swansea City, while the fourth new boy of the week, Craig Eastmond, was on the bench.

The Glovers had got off to a good start and went into the half-time interval 1-0 thanks to a goal from Gozie Ugwu.

But Yeovil were hauled back to 1-1 not long after the start of the second period when Glovers’ keeper Artur Krysiak parried a free-kick from 25 yards out and John Marquis netted from close range.GLOVERS NEWS: Yeovil Town 2, Gillingham 2

As the game looked to be heading for a 1-1 draw, Gillingham substitute Glenn Norris – who had only been on the pitch for a few minutes – popped up to give them a late lead.

The game moved into four minutes of added time and the Glovers were given a lifeline when substitute Joel Grant was fouled inside the box for a penalty.

And it was Adam Morgan, himself a second-half substitute, who strode up and took the spot kick and scored with aplomb.

Morgan then promptly got booked for taking his shirt off in the following celebration.

There was still time right at the end for Gillingham to force a corner, but it came to nothing and the game finished 2-2.

But while Yeovil fans in the 4,293 crowd may have celebrated the equaliser – there was not much to smile about from elsewhere in the league.

Their relegation rivals all had positive results with Colchester United beating leaders BristolCity 3-2, Crawley won 2-1 at SwindonTown and Leyton Orient stuffed Oldham Athletic 3-0, while Coventry drew 2-2 at Sheffield United.

The results leave Yeovil still bottom of the pile and five points from safety - but they need six considering their inferior goal difference with 20th placed Colchester United. But there are now nine points between Yeovil and 19th placed Crewe Alexandra meaning that the battle of Mission Survival is getting harder.
