GLOVERS NEWS: Yeovil Town 2, Crawley Town 1

SECOND-HALF goals from Gozie Ugwu and Ajay Leitch-Smith gave Yeovil Town a vital victory this afternoon (Saturday, February 7, 2015) in the Sky Bet League One.

The match was Terry Skiverton’s back as acting manager of the Glovers following the midweek departure of Gary Johnson.

He has described Yeovil’s battle to avoid relegation as Mission Survival and he gave the club a huge tonic by overseeing a crucial 2-1 success over fellow strugglers Crawley Town at Huish Park.

But despite making a bright start, it was Crawley who broke the deadlock on 27 minutes when Izale McLeod netted with a header.

The referee’s whistle to signal the end of the opening 45 minutes was greeted with boos from the HuishPark faithful.

But the game was turned on its head in a six-minute spell midway through the second-half.GLOVERS NEWS: Yeovil Town 2, Crawley Town 1

A Sam Foley free-kick was headed home by Gozie Ugwu on 66 minutes to bring Yeovil back level with the visitors.

And then on 72 minutes Ajay Leitch-Smith scored a rare goal - only his second for the Glovers - when he coolly slotted home.

Yeovil held firm to take the points and give Skiverton and his assistant, Darren Way, a perfect start to management without Gary Johnson.

The crowd at Huish Park today was just 3,807 with 201 having made the journey from Crawley.

The win moved Yeovil off the foot of the table into 22nd spot in the League One table.

Next up a trip to Crewe Alexandra on Tuesday (February 10, 2015) in another “six-pointer” match.
