CARNIVAL: Cash is handed out to groups in Chard

CHARD Carnival Committee has handed out cheques worth £7,000 to 24 local groups and organisations during a presentation ceremony.

Representatives of all the recipients were in attendance at the presentation event held at the Lordleaze Hotel in Chard on Thursday (February 5, 2015).

Carnival committee chairman, Andy Chant, in his first year in the role, said: “We’d like to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who took part in the 2014 Carnival or watched it and all those who put money into the collecting tins.

“In addition to the collection on night our fundraising in 2014 went very well and in particular we had a great Miss Chard and Princess competition.CARNIVAL: Cash is handed out to groups in Chard

“All this means we have been able to give away an amazing £7,000 divided between nearly 25 local groups and organisations.”

The awards were given out to the groups by the Mayor of Chard, Cllr Jenny Kenton, and the Carnival “royalty.”

Mr Chant added: “It is so good to see the whole town coming together to celebrate a uniquely Somerset event and it seems to get harder more expensive to run public events.CARNIVAL: Cash is handed out to groups in Chard

“So I hope everyone will agree that the hard work and effort by the clubs, individuals and the Carnival Committee produced a great Carnival in 2014.

“But it doesn’t stop there because we are already making our plans to make 2015 Carnival even better.”

The Carnival Committee annual meeting takes place on February 19, 2015, at the Lordleaze Hotel in Chard at 7.30pm.

Any new volunteers will always be welcome to help organise the Carnival and keep this fantastic tradition going,” said Mr Chant.

“So if you think you would like to be a part of Chard Carnival in any way, please come along on February 19 or contact me or a member of the committee at any time.”
