CARNIVAL: Crunch meeting for South Petherton Carnival future

THE future of South Petherton Carnival is in serious doubt once again – unless a new chairman can be found to run the organisation.

The Carnival is one of the biggest events in South Petherton’s calendar and each year raises thousands of pounds for local groups and charities.

But a crunch meeting will be held on Thursday (November 30, 2017) which could go a long way to determining whether there will be a Carnival in 2018.

The meeting will be held at the Brewers Arms from 7.30pm and anyone interested in helping out with the Carnival committee are most welcome to attend.

But it is crucial that the group finds a chairman to co-ordinate everything.

Andrea Clifford has held the post of chairman for the past couple of years, but due to personal reasons has decided to stand down, although will be continuing to help out and support anyone wanting to take on the role.

She made the announcement at the Carnival committee’s annual meeting and cheque presentation evening at the Blake Hall in South Petherton.

Andrea handed out cheques to the value of around £4,500 – up £500 from 2016 - with to various local groups, organisations and procession prize money with funds raised by the Carnival during the year.

The Carnival committee is looking forward to the switching on of the Christmas lights in South Petherton on Sunday, November 26, 2017, and the annual festive fair at the Brewers Arms where Santa will be giving out to children gifts paid for by Carnival funds during the afternoon.
