Yeovil Town 1, Huddersfield Town 2: Heartbreak for Glovers

YEOVIL Town’s hopes of surviving for another season in the Sky Bet Championship are 99.9 per cent all but over this evening (Monday, April 21, 2014) following the 2-1 defeat against Huddersfield Town at Huish Park.

The Glovers remain rooted at the bottom of the table and need nothing short of a miracle of Biblical proportions if they are to avoid drop.

They have to win their remaining two games and hope that Birmingham City lose all of their last three matches and turnaround an inferior goal difference; plus Yeovil have to hope that Blackpool and Barnsley also mess up their final two matches as well.Yeovil Town 1, Huddersfield Town 2: Heartbreak for Glovers

It is probably too early to start the inquests into where it all went wrong for Yeovil during the 2013-14 season which, it still has to be said, has been an amazing rollercoaster adventure for the Glovers.

After a goalless first-half Huddersfield took the lead through Nahki Wells in the 69th minute at a time when Yeovil were beginning to mount sustained pressure.

Yeovil responded well and got back on level terms moments later when Tom Lawrence equalised with a free-kick from the edge of the box.

Eight minutes of stoppage time provided a grandstand finish with Yeovil fans willing the Glovers on.

But it ended in heartbreak when Adam Clayton netted a winner for Huddersfield with just a minute remaining.

The Fat Lady has now taken to the stage and is waiting to break out into song.
