Football: Yeovil Town v Derby County: Andy Williams returns to Huish Park

YEOVIL Town have confirmed this morning (Friday, August 23) that former Glovers’ striker Andy Williams has rejoined the club on a one-year loan deal.

Williams has returned to Huish Park from Swindon Town – the club he left Yeovil for in 2012.

Yeovil manager Gary Johnson, speaking to the Glovers’ official website, said: “After reaching agreement between both clubs I expressed a big interest in getting Andy Williams back to Yeovil.Football: Yeovil Town v Derby County: Andy Williams returns to Huish Park

“I am delighted everything has come together and we welcome with open arms Andy back to Yeovil.

“We have some very good strikers already at the club, but we all know in the Championship you can’t have enough goalscorers.”

Johnson added: “Our strikers also have the ability to mix-n-match and perform together.”

Williams’ departure from Huish Park last summer angered some Yeovil fans claiming that Swindon had ambition - despite the Glovers' offering him an attractive contract to stay.

Ironically, Williams left the Glovers and 12 months on Yeovil are in the Sky Bet Championship and Swindon are still in League One.

Johnson said: “I’m sure the odd one or two fans may have felt aggrieved that Andy left to join Swindon, but he felt it was the right move for him at the time.

“We understood his decision and these sort of decisions often happen in football, but we are delighted he is back with us at Huish Park.

“The minute we were allowed to speak with Andy he showed us great desire and keenness to be back playing for Yeovil.”

Williams will go into Yeovil’s squad for tomorrow’s Sky Bet Championship match with Derby County at Huish Park.
