Football: Ex-Yeovil Town favourite wants YOUR support!

FORMER Yeovil Town player Chris Giles is after your support as he aims to raise as much money for charity by taking part in an Ironman triathlon.

Chris, 31, will be taking part in a 4k swim, 180k bike ride and a 40k run in Wales on September 8, 2013, to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The popular local lad has recently had to retire from football due to injury, but believes he will be able to complete the Ironman For Macmillan.Football: Ex-Yeovil Town favourite wants YOUR support!

“I am a believer that your body can still carry out the tough actions your mind tells it to, achieving cool things and raising money along the way for others,” he said.

“But I know this will be tough for many reasons.”

Chris now struggles to run and admits he will have walk vast lengths of the 40k marathon.

“I feel no shame in this,” he said.

Chris will join up with around 1,800 competitors from across 40 different nations for the Ironman at Tenby in Pembrokeshire for the event.

Anyone wanting to sponsor Chris can do on his Just Giving website page at www.justgiving.com/ironman4macmillan .

Chris was very much a part of the Yeovil Town squad which won the FA Trophy in the 2002. During Gary Johnson's first season at the club he made 47 appearances in all competitions for the Glovers - the fourth highest in the squad.

In total Chris made 63 appearances for the club and scored 14 goals before going on to have spells at Gravesend and Northfleet (loan), Woking (loan), Aldershot, Crawley Town (twice), Forest Green Rovers and Salisbury City where he is currently first-team coach having had to retire from playing due to injury.

The Yeovil Press would like to wish Chris the very best of luck in his Ironman Triathlon! Madness - if you ask us; but good luck!
