Football: Yeovil Town need to fight like gladiators

JUST like Gladiators fighting for their lives in the ampitheatres of Ancient Rome, Yeovil Town’s footballers have scrapped and battled their way into this year’s play-off zone in the npower League One.

With automatic promotion still a possibility for Gary Johnson’s side, the play-offs at least were achieved yesterday with a 2-0 success at Stevenage coupled with poor results for some of their promotion rivals.

Yeovil, are without question, the minnows of League One but their fighting spirit and and never-say-die qualities have shone through this season to show that, on their day, they can be a match for anyone.

Now the Yeovil bandwagon travels on to Oldham Athletic on Tuesday where they will be looking for another three-point haul.

They know that if they are to have any chance of gaining automatic promotion by finishing in the top two they will need to win their remaining games – starting at Oldham on Tuesday, Crewe Alexandra at Huish Park on Saturday followed by a trip to Bury on April 27.

But the players will all have to take up the sword and shield and battle as one; battle as a team and, at the end of the day, each one needs to stand up and say: ‘’I’m Spartacus.’’
