Football: Yeovil Town's Paddy gets monthly award

YEOVIL Town striker Paddy Madden has been named, unsurprisingly, as the npower League One Player of the Month.Football: Yeovil Town's Paddy gets monthly award

Madden was in sparkling form for the Glovers in January with six of the seven goals Yeovil scored in their three League One matches played during the month.

His nomination said that Madden's "stamina and desire to chase down lost causes was as pivotal  as his predatory instincts in front of goal."

He saw off the challenge of Swindon Town's Wes Foderingham and Doncaster Rovers' Rob Jones to gain the award.

Madden has now scored 17 goals this season including 16 for Yeovil Town since his move to South Somerset from Carlisle United earlier in the campaign, initially on loan which became permanent in January.

The 22-year-old Irishman will be looking to add to that total tomorrow (Saturday) when Scunthorpe United are the visitors to Huish Park as Yeovil look to make it eight successive league victories - which would be a new club record since entering the Football League.

Yeovil boss Gary Johnson, meanwhile, missed out on winning the League One Manager of the Month to Walsall's Dean Smith.

While Yeovil won three out of three League One matches, Smith guided Walsall to four wins out of five during January.

Yeovil players and personnel were at Buckler's Mead Sports Centre in Yeovil yesterday for a fun day where they were more than happy to meet with supporters.

They will be hoping to give the fans plenty to cheer about tomorrow afternoon when Scunthorpe come to town for a 3pm kick-off.
