Under Starters Orders at Wincanton Racecourse

WINCANTON Racecourse will reveal improved facilities at its first meeting of the new season on Thursday, October 18, when it welcomes back racegoers after its annual five month break.

General Manager, Steve Parlett, said: “During the summer, we’ve improved and extended the Owners and Trainers bar which has been decorated by our Artist in Residence – Jake Eastham and Hannah Fowler.

“We’ve made permanent our members’ lounge and improved the irrigation system on the actual racecourse.  We’re also looking very closely at our food and beverage offering and will be making ongoing improvements, including focusing on more local products.”

The popular rural jumps course stages 17 meetings each season until May 2013, with the first October meeting the curtain raiser titled Under Starters Orders.

Seven races are on the Bathwick Tyres-sponsored card, which begin at 2.20pm, and before prior to a maiden hurdle race kicking off the new season, local racing superstars will parade in the paddock including the legendary Kauto Star, Big Bucks (trained by Paul Nicholls) and Anthony’s Knott’s Hunt Ball.

The parade takes place between 12.45pm and 1.45pm.

Steve Parlett adds: “We have a fantastic line up for our first meeting and it is a real treat for racegoers to see Kauto Star, Big Bucks and other yard fancies in the flesh before their campaigns begin.

“Our raceday announcer Luke Harvey is a tremendous asset and will be giving tips from the paddock as well as explaining how to bet for less experienced racegoers.  There will be free raceday tours throughout the afternoon.”

The racecourse has also introduced a £5 discount on all tickets booked by October 17.

Mr Parlett added: “It’s a great incentive for people to come along and enjoy the return of racing to Wincanton. We are very excited about the new season, and hope that during the course of the next few months we’ll see some top class horses in action. We are all looking forward to welcoming everyone back.”
