Chris proving a bright spark in Screwfix contest to find Britain's Top Tradesman

AN electrician from Yeovil, Chris Eve (pictured), is through to the regional final of a competition to find Britain’s Top Tradesman.

Chris, 49, has seen off competition from more than 3,000 tradesmen, to be named a finalist in the contest organised by Screwfix. He is now in with a chance of winning a Renault van worth £27,000, if he gets through to the national final, and is keeping his fingers crossed that he can impress the judges in the South West.

Chris used to be a motorcycle engineer, but following a spell in France renovating a farm house, he retrained as an electrician on his return to the UK and has never looked back.  He prides himself on keeping his customers happy and was recently involved in helping a client to enjoy their dream wedding.

Chris said: “Every job I do, I go above and beyond the call of duty. Recently I was asked to do an outdoor lighting display for a bride and groom - something I had never done before. It involved a lot of work, lighting up trees, plants, and marquees, but it looked spectacular. The couple were delighted and it felt really special to be a part of their big day.”

Chris also works for a housing charity that helps homeless people to get a roof over their heads.

Chris will compete against other finalists from the region, with the winner then going head-to-head with up to ten other regional finalists from across the UK to win the vehicle and the national title.

Screwfix marketing director John Mewett said: "We've been overwhelmed by the response and have enjoyed reading some impressive and amusing stories along the way.

''Chris and our other finalists have demonstrated their willingness to go the extra mile to get the job done and it's certainly no easy task to pick the winner."

Britain’s Top Tradesman, is a nationwide search to find and recognise the best builders, helpful handymen, exceptional electricians and perfect plumbers that keep the UK’s homes and businesses in top condition.

The regional heat will take place at Screwfix in Bristol, on Malago Road, on October, 19, 2012. Chris will take part in a number of challenges to find out if he’s got what it takes to be crowned the regional winner.
