YEOVIL NEWS: Police reassure public after armed officers arrest man in Yeovil

ARMED police officers responded to an incident at a property in Yeovil this morning (Saturday, August 19) in which a man was arrested.

The incident happened at a home in Fosse Park Road which is off West Hendford and close to the Lidl supermarket.

A police spokesman said: “We were called shortly before 5.35am to a domestic incident. The person who called was found safe we're glad to report.

“But one man was making threats and stayed within the property. Following unsuccessful attempts to engage with the man and encourage him to come outside, armed officers forced entry and he was arrested at approximately 8.45am. A Taser was discharged and loud distraction devices used during the arrest attempts.”

That man is currently in police custody.

“Our enquiries are at an early stage but we'd like to reassure you all we believe this incident involved parties known to each other and there is no known risk to the community,” added the spokesman.

“That being said, people living in the area can expect to see extra reassurance patrols. One of the reasons for them is to make sure we have officers close by to answer any concerns people may have, so by all means if you are worried please stop us and we'll be happy to help.”
