GLOVERS NEWS: Late penalty cancels out Zoko goal for Yeovil Town

YEOVIL Town were left kicking themselves on Saturday (January 13, 2018) after a late penalty denied them all three points in a Sky Bet League Two clash at Port Vale.

The Glovers had gone into the game determined to banish any thoughts of their forthcoming FA Cup Fourth Round clash with Manchester United from their minds.

And it looked to have happened as Yeovil took an early lead on 11 minutes when veteran striker Francois Zoko saw his shot from 20 yards out nestle into the back of the net.

And it look as if it was going to be enough to give Yeovil a big three points in their battle to get away from the wrong end of the table.

But, not for the first time this season, they were left disappointed right at the death.

Port Vale man David Worrall was adjudged to have been fouled inside the Yeovil penalty area on 86 minutes and the referee awarded the home side a penalty.

The spot-kick was taken and duly converted by Tom Pope and the game finished at 1-1.

The result left Yeovil down in 21st position just five points above the relegation zone after struggling Chesterfield moved out of the bottom two by springing one of the surprise results of the season with a 2-0 success over promotion-chasing Luton Town.

Yeovil Town now face Chesterfield at Huish Park next Saturday (January 20, 2018) in a key match.
