GLOVERS NEWS: Yeovil Town throw away victory at Forest Green

TWICE Yeovil Town threw away a two-goal advantage as they fell to a deeply disappointing 4-3 defeat at Forest Green Rovers in the Sky Bet League Two on Saturday (August 19, 2017).

While Yeovil fans will still be embarrassed by the 8-2 thrashing at Luton Town earlier this month on the opening day of the 2017-18 campaign, the travelling supporters will be more distraught at the manner in which their team went down at League Two new boys Forest Green.

Yeovil found themselves 2-0 up and then 3-1 up in the first-half and were sitting in the League Two play-off spots at one point in the afternoon, but come the end of the 90 minutes and the players trudging off the pitch and the Glovers found themselves down in 21st position just above the drop zone.

Admittedly it is only three games into a 46-match campaign and there is still a lot of football to be played, but Yeovil boss Darren Way will know that his side should not have thrown away the points at Forest Green.

But credit to the home side as they kept battling even when they were two goals adrift at two stages in proceedings.

An action-packed opening 45 minutes saw five goals scored with Yeovil edging the proceedings 3-2.

Yeovil took the lead on nine minutes when Olufela Olomola scored from close range and then it was 2-0 to the Glovers in the 14th minute when Otis Khan successfully tucked away a penalty after he had been fouled in the box by Forest’s Jack Fitzwater.

But Forest Green pulled one back on 23 minutes when Christian Doidge headed home past Yeovil keeper Artur Krysiak.

Yeovil restored their two-goal advantage, however, before the interval when Francois Zoko put the visiting Glovers 3-1 up on 35 minutes.

But Forest Green bounced back again to reduce the deficit to 3-2 on the stroke of half-time when Reece Brown scored into the top right corner of Krysiak’s net.

It was not long into the second period when Forest Green pulled level when Charlie Cooper drove the ball home into the net from outside the box much to the delight of home side’s supporters.

The game then headed towards stalemate before  Omar Bugiel headed Forest Green into the lead for the first time in the afternoon as the score moved to 4-3 for the hosts on 79 minutes.

Yeovil Town have now conceded 14 goals in three league fixtures this season at an average of 4.6 per match – it is clear that something needs to be done in defence to stop them leaking goals so frequently.
