GLOVERS NEWS: Yeovil Town FC hope for better result with Planning Inspectorate

YEOVIL Town Football Club and Yeovil Town Holdings Ltd have submitted an appeal to the Planning Inspectorate with regard to a planning application for a community playing field and recreation use at Lufton.

The appeal was filed at the Inspectorate on Friday (March 24, 2017) following a refusal decision by South Somerset District Council in September 2016.GLOVERS NEWS: Yeovil Town FC hope for better result with Planning Inspectorate Photo 2

Planning agent David Bell, following the appeal submission, said: “An appeal has been submitted which now has to go through the validation process. We have asked for a hearing rather than written representations or a full inquiry.

"Once validated, the appeal will be heard by an impartial Inspector.”

Yeovil Town FC, Yeovil Town Holdings and the Yeovil Town Community Sports Trust had asked the council for planning permission to create new sporting facilities on land at Lufton on the outskirts of town.GLOVERS NEWS: Yeovil Town FC hope for better result with Planning Inspectorate Photo 3

But the council’s Area South committee narrowly turned the application down at its meeting on September 7, 2017.

The reasons for refusal were because of the site’s rural nature, concerns about traffic and the disturbance it could cause local people who live in the hamlet of Lufton.

The actual application had been recommended for approval by the council’s own planning officers and so now the club is hoping that an independent Planning Inspector will come out in its favour this time around.

The plans include two-full sized football pitches, an option for a cricket pitch, a modest pavilion to accommodate four changing rooms and necessary changes for access and associated car parking.
