GLOVERS NEWS: Former Yeovil Town boss beats his old club

FORMER Yeovil Town manager Gary Johnson got one over his former club on Saturday (February 18, 2017) when he saw his Cheltenham Town team dish out a 2-0 success over the Glovers.

After a 0-0 first-half, Cheltenham seized the initiative early in the second period when Tin Plavotic broke the deadlock on 48 minutes with a header.

Things went from bad to worse for Yeovil Town when Matt Butcher was adjudged to have fouled Kyle Wootton in the box and Billy Waters stepped up to double Cheltenham’s advantage from the penalty spot on 63 minutes.

The game stayed 2-0 in Cheltenham’s favour and provided them with a big three-points in their battle to get away from the wrong end of the table.

The result moved Cheltenham up to 21st in the table on 32 points from 32 games played, while Yeovil Town slipped to 17th and remained on 38 points.

Also disappointing for Yeovil was that social media reports and photos show that some of the travelling Glovers fans started fighting amongst themselves which resulted in police moving in to calm things down.

Not good.

Johnson – the man who spearheaded the Glovers to FA Trophy, Nationwide Conference, League Two and League One success in two spells at Huish Park – would have been pleased to have got the win over his former player now Yeovil boss, Darren Way, having suffered a 4-2 defeat at Huish Park back in September.

Darren Way, meanwhile, will be wondering what can be done to turn things around which has seen Yeovil win just one of their last 13 League Two fixtures.
