LEISURE: New facilities at Cricket St Thomas Leisure Club

MEMBERS at the Cricket St Thomas Leisure Club, part of Warner’s Hotel near Chard, can now benefit from a much-improved fitness gym and exercise studio – thanks to redevelopment work carried out over the quiet Christmas period.

The re-modelled facilities were officially opened on Wednesday (February 7, 2017) by president of Chard Rotary Club, Barry Gibbs, accompanied by his wife, Claire, president of Chard Rotary’s ladies section the Inner Wheel.

Additional space has been created by relocating the snooker and games room, moving the adjoining exercise studio to the home of the old fitness gym and utilising the vacated space to create a new gym.

The fitness gym is now 40% bigger and the high ceilings and windows create a bright airy feel to the area. The exercise studio, used for yoga, Thai Chi, aerobics, Zumba, circuits and Piloxing is also a third bigger.LEISURE: New facilities at Cricket St Thomas Leisure Club

John, a long-time member from Tatworth, said: “The old gym used to feel cramped with limited space between the aerobic and weights machines. It’s much better now and I especially like the large free weights area.”

Club manager, Russell Gage, who had been pushing for the changes for some time, added: “We are getting a great reaction from members and new visitors that come to take up our free day pass offer.

“We’ve also benefitted from the current closure of the Cresta Pool in Chard which has encouraged local people to check out what we have to offer.

“Members especially like the fact that our pool is adults only and a more relaxing environment than the public facilities locally.”

Warner’s are committed to ongoing enhancement to the facilities. A brand new sauna was fitted in November and the club have just purchased ten new bikes to enable cycle spin classes to be offered very soon.

Members of Cricket St Thomas Leisure Club benefit from discounts throughout the hotel and membership includes free access to the performances staged by the entertainments team and the popular visiting tribute acts.

All this combined with activities like archery, rifle shooting, Nordic walking, foil fencing, aqua aerobics and onsite beauty salon makes membership of the club a very attractive proposition.

You can try out the facilities for free until February 24, 2017, with the current free day pass offer. Just call the Leisure Club reception on 01460-30975 to arrange your visit.
