GLOVERS NEWS: Yeovil Town sign Akpa Akpro

YEOVIL Town have completed the loan signing of experienced Barnet forward Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro.

The 32-year-old joins the Glovers for the remainder of the season and becomes manager Darren Way’s sixth addition in the January transfer window.

Frenchman Akpa Akpro came through the ranks at hometown club Toulouse, spending a brief stint on loan at Stade Brestois.

A move to Belgium followed in 2007, when he joined FC Brussels but he made just three appearances for Les Coalisés in his only season at the club.

He jetted over to England for trials at a number of clubs, and impressed Grimsby Town enough to be offered a permanent contract.GLOVERS NEWS: Yeovil Town sign Akpa Akpro Photo 2

Over 18 months the Mariners, the striker scored eight times before transferring to Rochdale.

Akpa Akpro helped the Dale to a respectable ninth-placed finish in Sky Bet League One in his first season at Spotland, but suffered relegation a year later.

His next stop was a two-year spell at Tranmere Rovers where he netted seven goals in his first ten matches.

A spell on the sidelines followed due to a metatarsal injury which led to his release from the now National League outfit.

Akpa Akpro penned a one-year deal at Shrewsbury Town in 2014 and netted nine goals in all competitions.

An extension was given to the experienced frontman who scored a further seven times for the Shrews before signing for Barnet last summer.

With John Akinde in prolific form, Akpa Akpro has found starts hard to come by at the Hive this season and will be looking for more match time during his 19-game stay in Yeovil.

The new signing was ineligible for Tuesday (January 31, 2017) night’s match with Plymouth Argyle at Huish Park as the move was still subject to EFL and FA ratification.

A spokesman for the Glovers Trust supporters’ group said: “I’m sure all fans would like to welcome Jean-Louis to Huish Park and hopes he has a successful time with Yeovil Town.”
