GLOVERS NEWS: Last gasp frustration for Yeovil Town

YEOVIL Town had victory taken away from them deep into stoppage time during a pulsating match at Blackpool on Saturday (January 21, 2017) afternoon.

Twice Yeovil led at Bloomfield Road, but twice their visitors pulled back to equalise in this Sky Bet League Two encounter which finished 2-2.

The second Blackpool equaliser came deep into stoppage time when Nathan Delfouneso netted from close range with 95 minutes on clock.

But even then Yeovil came within inches of snatching a dramatic winner on 97 minutes when Tom Eaves saw a shot from outside the box hit the bar.

It was the last bit of action in an entertaining game – although the Yeovil faithful will be bitterly disappointed not to have held on for a much-needed win.

Yeovil opened the scoring on 34 minutes through Francois Zoko as they dominated the opening stages of the game.

But Blackpool responded in the second period and drew level through Kelvin Mellor on 70 minutes.

Yeovil were undeterred, however, and regained the initiative in the 80th minute when skipper Darren Ward, making his first appearance after missing the previous ten matches due to injury, scored to put them 2-1 up.

There was then a delay as Ryan Dickson picked up a serious injury and had to go off on a stretcher which prolonged the time added-on period to a whopping eight minutes.

With the Yeovil fans willing the referee’s watch to speed up, Blackpool still had time to spoil the away day party for the Glovers with their late equaliser.

The result leaves Yeovil in 16th spot in the League Two table – eight points off the play-off places and nine points above the relegation zone.
