GLOVERS NEWS: Battling performance all in vain for Yeovil Town

YEOVIL Town fell to a second successive League Two defeat on Saturday (December 17, 2016) with a 2-1 loss at title hopefuls Carlisle United – but they fought desperately hard to salvage a point.

The Glovers found themselves 2-0 down at the break, but fought back well in the second-half and reduced the deficit early on and went in search of an equaliser, but it was not to be.

Carlisle took the lead on ten minutes when Shaun Brisley saw a well-executed shot from outside the box go in and then they doubled their lead on 36 minutes through a Charlie Wyke header.

But Yeovil came out all guns blazing in the second period and brought the score back to 2-1 just after the re-start when defender Nathan Smith headed home.

Yeovil manager Darren Way introduced tricky winger Otis Khan and striker Tom Eaves midway through the second period and they caused Carlisle problems.

But Carlisle, who are second in the table, held firm to claim all three points.

It means a disappointing long journey back to South Somerset from Cumbria for the Glovers and their supporters who were treated to a free pie and pint ahead of the game – thanks to donations from the Yeovil Town players.

The result left Yeovil down in 12th position in the League Two table.
