LEISURE: Evita at the Octagon Theatre with Yeovil Amateur Operatic Society

PREPARATIONS are going well ahead of Yeovil Amateur Operatic Society’s forthcoming lavish production of Evita.

YAOS will be performing the show – with lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber – at the Octagon Theatre in Yeovil from March 8-19, 2016.

This production is being directed by Jeremy Tustin with musical director Gill Merrifield and tells the captivating story of the rags-to-riches rise of the First Lady of Argentina who won the love of her countrymen after marrying military leader-turned-president Juan Peron.

Set in Buenos Aires between 1934-1952, the musical follows Eva Duarte Peron on her journey from fatherless child to ambitious actress to the most powerful woman in Latin America - and, eventually, to a saint-like figure after her death from cancer at the age of 33.

The events in Evita’slife are told in song and commented on by the show’s narrator, Che. The show had an incredible run in the West End and on Broadway and features well known songs such as, Another Suitcase in Another Hall, Oh What A Circus and Don’t Cry For Me Argentina.

Performances will be at 7.30pm nightly with Saturday matinees as well as 2.30pm on March 12 and March 19, 2016.

Tickets are priced £14 for opening night on Tuesday, March 8, 2016, and Monday, March 14, 2016, plus the two Saturday matinees. All other performances will be £17 per seat.
