LEISURE: Smile Please - 25 years in pictures with Len Copland

WELL-KNOWN local press photographer Len Copland is celebrating 25 years of “snapping” with an exhibition at the Octagon Theatre in Yeovil of some of his favourite photos.

Len was joined by media colleagues – past and present – including many of his friends from the photographic world along with local dignitaries last night (Wednesday, January 13, 2016) for a preview of the exhibition entitled Smile Please.

It was said that lots of people in and around Yeovil say they know Len – even if it transpires that they spoke with him for just three minutes, ten years ago while having their photograph taken by him.

But it was said that Len’s personality, drive and boundless energy has made him such a popular photographer in Yeovil, South Somerset and beyond.

Len said that he still gets the same buzz from seeing his photographs printed in newspapers as he did when he first started out nearly three decades ago.

He thanked the Octagon Theatre for hosting the exhibition and to Remous Print for sponsorship and helping to put the display together.

The exhibition features a series of photographs taken by Len during his 25 years behind the camera and can be found on the first floor of the Octagon in the cafe and bar area.

Among those at the preview night were the chairman of South Somerset District Council, Cllr Mike Best, the Mayor and Mayoress of Yeovil, Cllrs Mike and Pauline Lock, and the Deputy Mayor and Mayoress of Yeovil, Cllr Darren Shutler and his wife Anna.

The Smile Please exhibition is on display at the Octagon Theatre until the end of February 2016.
