GLOVERS NEWS: Vital victory for Yeovil Town

YEOVIL Town recorded their first win in Sky Bet League Two since September last year with victory yesterday (Saturday, January 2, 2016) over fellow strugglers York City.

A Matt Dolan penalty just before the half-time interval was enough to separate the two sides at Huish Park and was a perfect start for Darren Way in his first match since being given the Glovers’ managerial position on a permanent basis.

The penalty came on 40 minutes after referee James Linington felt Yeovil striker Francois Zoko had been fouled inside the box and Dolan made no mistake from the spot shooting past former Glovers’ keeper Scott Flinders.

There were nervous moments in the closing stages of the game as York – who had not really threatened before – began to look for an equaliser.

But Yeovil held firm and could have increased their lead ahead of the full-time whistle. But the 1-0 win was enough to let fans and the team savour that winning feeling - after 16 League Two games without a three-point haul.

While the win saw Yeovil move off the bottom of the League Two table with York going to the basement, the Glovers remained in the relegation zone following Dagenham & Redbridge’s win at Exeter City.
