GLOVERS NEWS: Darren Way given the manager’s job on permanent basis

THE board of Yeovil Town Football Club have today (Thursday, December 31, 2015) appointed Darren Way as the club's new permanent manager.

Way has been in interim charge of first team affairs since December 1, 2015, and so far has taken charge of six games. His first game in charge saw him lead Town to a 1-0 victory over Stevenage in the FA Cup, resulting in a third round tie against Carlisle United.

He has been associated with the Glovers since August 2000 following a switch from NorwichCity where he learnt his trade as a midfielder and earned six England under 16 caps.

During his playing days at Huish Park, he won Player of the Year numerous times, won Conference Player of the Year and has played a huge part in the club's rise from the Conference to the Championship.

Way went on to make over 220 appearances for Yeovil in two separate spells which sandwiched a stay in Wales playing for Swansea City.

Due to a horrific car accident in 2008, Darren was forced to retire from playing in 2010 but since retiring, he has gained his coaching badges and is currently undertaking his FA UEFA Pro Licence. Applicants for the elite course must already hold a current UEFA ‘A’ Licence and all applicants must have experience in the professional game at a senior level as either a player, player coach, coach, assistant manager or manager.

Way said: “I am very honoured and privileged to become the manager of Yeovil Town. I am ready to take this club into battle and secure our Football League status.

“I feel the players have given everything for me since I have taken charge and the supporters have shown a lot of love and respect towards the players and the football club.

“I feel I have worked very hard to be given this opportunity. I have shown the same passion and commitment as a manager that I did when I played. As it stands right now, the club needs passion and commitment and I am sure there is enough around the town and community with everyone pulling in the same direction to maintain our league status.

“I fully respect the fans who have turned up week in week out to show their support and I think they can see the change since I took over. Keep positive and let’s keep marching on.”

Way will be unveiled at a press conference at HuishPark today at 2pm.
