LEISURE: Earth Hour 2016 in Chard

CHARD is to get involved in next year’s Earth Hour event which will see people from 174 countries around the globe get involved.

The showpiece event for the newly-formed Sustainable Chard environmental group will be getting involved in the worldwide Earth Hour on March 19, 2016.

The lights are turned off between 8.30pm and 9.30pm to raise Climate Change awareness and famous landmarks around the world – such as the EiffelTower, Sydney Opera House and the Kremlin – are blacked out.

Ten million people in the UK alone took part in this year’s Earth Hour project.

Chard’s programme for the evening already includes bands such as Seize the Day, Elijah Wolf and local talents such as Hannah Cumming, Sarah Patuck and Stevie Nicole Brown.

With street entertainers, dancers and an array of traders all with a green ethos, the evening is building up to be quite special and Chard intends to demonstrate its commitment to be a green light in the South West.
