SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Litter-picking Wombles needed in Chard!

THE Sustainable Chard environmental group wants to recruit a rubbish-collecting army of Wombles for a litter pick in the town next month.

The litter-pick collection in the town is to be held on Sunday, September 6, 2015, and organisers are hoping that volunteers will come forward and do their bit for the environment just like the loveable Wombles characters did on TV on Wimbledon Common in the 1970s.

Volunteer litter-pickers will start from Knowle at around 10.30am and head towards the centre of town with all materials to be sorted at the recycling facilities in Beeching Close.

The group – which is looking to make Chard a more environmentally-friendly town – has already held two successful meetings at the Phoenix Hotel in Fore Street.SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Litter-picking Wombles needed in Chard!

A third is planned for September 16 at 7pm with guest speaker Bernard Genge who will talk about “change and why people resist change to improve.”

Meanwhile, group members will be trying vegan food at Feast in Ilminster on Friday (August 28).

Tim Eggins, of Sustainable Chard, said: “Hopefully this will encourage restaurants in Chard to offer healthy vegetarian and vegan food knowing there is a growing fan base on the doorstep.”
