GLOVERS NEWS: Bird is the word for Yeovil Town match-winner Ryan

TWO goals from super-sub Ryan Bird helped Yeovil Town to an unlikely 3-2 success at Huish Park this afternoon (Saturday, August 22, 2015) – the Glovers’ first win of the 2015-16 season.

Things had not looked so good after just 20 minutes of this League Two encounter at Huish Park which started the day drenched in sunshine but ended the afternoon drenched in rain.

Luton opened up a quick 2-0 lead with Yeovil having barely looked as if they were awake and it looked on the cards as if the Glovers were heading for a fourth straight League Two defeat.

But they pulled a goal back just before the break which proved a vital lifeline and then in the second-half it became the Bird show as resurgent Yeovil deservedly took the three points.

Yeovil got off to a terrible start when they found themselves 1-0 down after just four minutes minutes when Craig Mackail-Smith got hold of the ball and smashed it home from 25 yards out.GLOVERS NEWS: Bird is the word for Yeovil Town match-winner Ryan

Luton doubled their lead inside 20 minutes when Paul Benson tapped in from close range past Yeovil keeper Artur Krysiak.

But Yeovil pulled a goal back just before the break when centre-half Stephen Arthurworrey netted after latching onto a Connor Roberts cross.

It was on the hour-mark when Ryan Bird replaced Shaun Jeffers up front and he made himself a hero with the Yeovil fans.

He pulled the Glovers back level on 62 minutes and then put Yeovil 3-2 up in the 73rd minute.

A remarkable turnaround in fortunes for Yeovil to come from the desperate position of 2-0 down to win 3-2 – much to the delight of the Glovers fans in the 3,830 crowd.

One victory does not make a season, however, and there is still a lot of work to be done by Yeovil boss Paul Sturrock, but he will be relieved and delighted to see his side finally get off the mark and out of the bottom two of the table.
