GLOVERS NEWS: Yeovil Town 0, Wlalsall 1

YEOVIL Town suffered another desperately disappointing defeat tonight (Tuesday, March 3, 2015) as they fell to a 1-0 loss to Walsall – with the all-important goal coming from a player who was wearing the Glovers’ green and white kit earlier this season.

It was almost written in tablets of stone that Manchester City youngster Jordy Hiwula, now on loan with Walsall – would score against Yeovil, who he made nine appearances for in a previous loan spell in Somerset.GLOVERS NEWS: Yeovil Town 0, Wlalsall 1

His goal came after Walsall could have already been in front when Tom Bradshaw saw a penalty saved by new Yeovil loan keeper Scott Loach after the Rotherham United shot-stopper had brought down Hiwula inside the box.

Loach made a string of saves to keep Yeovil in the game during the first period, but failed to stop Hiwula’s match-winning effort on 32 minutes. Fair play to Hiwula for failing to celebrate the goal in a mark of respect for his former Glovers’ team-mates.

Yeovil’s evening did not start well when they had to make an early change after Stephen Kingsley was stretchered off with a suspected fractured cheekbone which was later confirmed.

Yeovil could have got themselves back on level terms midway through the second period when they were awarded a penalty after Joel Grant had been fouled inside the box by Walsall’s Ben Purkiss.

But Adam Morgan, who had only just been brought on as a substitute, saw his spot-kick saved by keeper Richard O’Donnell who pushed the ball out for a corner.

There were more chances either end and O’Donnell pulled off a superb reflex save in the closing stages to deny a Byron Webster header.

And then right at the death Morgan went through, but his effort was saved by O’Donnell.

Thankfully all of Yeovil’s relegation rivals also lost which means that they have not lost any ground, but the games are beginning to run out for the Glovers to turn things around.

They now have just 12 games in which to preserve Yeovil’s status in League One – starting with the visit of Oldham Athletic on Saturday (March 7, 2015). The job is getting harder for the Glovers.
