And it was the Welsh side’s strength in depth which saw them run out comfortable winners come the end.

But it was Yeovil, who are gearing up towards their return to Sky Bet League One this season after one year in the Championship, who took the lead when striker AJ Leitch-Smith scored after 18 minutes.

Yeovil boss Gary Johnson made just one substitution during the game, while Cardiff made a multitude of changes during the second period as they took control of proceedings.

Adam Le Fondre equalised for Cardiff from the penalty spot within ten minutes of the re-start and Matthew Connolly made it 2-1 in the 62nd minute.

Kenwyne Jones then netted a brace in the 73rd and 90th minutes to complete the scoreline.
