Wow! Sister Act is going to ROCK the Octagon!

WOW! If the dress rehearsal last night (Monday, March 10, 2014) was anything to go by then audiences are in for a real treat over the next two weeks as Yeovil Amateur Operatic Society perform the hit musical Sister Act at the Octagon Theatre.

YAOS will be performing the popular musical – which came as a result of the 1992 film version starring Whoopi Goldberg –  from tonight (March 11, 2014) to March 22, 2014.

Performances will start nightly at 7.30pm with 2.30pm matinee shows on Saturday, March 15, and Saturday, March 22.

The lead role of Deloris Van Cartier (the part played by Whoopi in the film) is taken by Kathryn Stevens with seemingly effortless ease and audiences will quickly bond with her.

The story follows Deloris as she is given police protection from Eddie (Mark Lawson) by being placed in a convent after witnessing a murder and she transforms the nuns by producing a choir which rocks!

There are some fabulous performances to enjoy including the gangsters led by Andrew Helson as Curtis and his sidekicks TJ (Ben Scott), Joey (Luke Whitchurch) and Pablo (Zade Milnes).

Under the watchful eye of Monsignor O'Hara (Steve Williams), the real stars of the show are the nuns starting with Mother Superior (Karen Pankhurst), Sister Mary Robert (Elouise Driver), Sister Mary Patrick (Lauren Francis), Sister Mary Lazarus (Charmaine Bray), Sister Mary Martin-of-Tours (Annette Hamilton) and Sister Mary Teresa (Lynn Lee Brown). With them and the ensemble of nuns – and their glittering costumes come the end – they will have audiences top-tapping and hand-clapping.

And there is even a cameo appearance from Pope Paul VI!
