Yeovil Town v Nottingham Forest: Johnson misses training due to M5 accident

YEOVIL Town manager Gary Johnson was unable to get to Huish Park today (Thursday, October 24, 2013) for training due to being held up in traffic on the M5 following a serious accident.

There was nothing Johnson could do about it after getting caught up in tailbacks following two accidents between Junctions 22-23.

At around 5.15am a car overturned on the southbound carriageway between the junctions for Burnham-on-Sea and Bridgwater. A short time later a second collision between a van and a lorry occurred in the same area.

Traffic was being diverted off the motorway at earlier junctions and police worked hard to turn around those vehicles stuck between the closed junctions.Yeovil Town v Nottingham Forest: Johnson misses training due to M5 accident

Johnson was left stuck in the traffic and by the time he was clear, there was little point in continuing the onwards journey to Yeovil.

But training resumed as normal in his absence at Huish Park with the players given a full workout ahead of Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship match with Nottingham Forest.

Football and its importance was, however, very much put into perspective when police reported at 9.45am that someone had died following the collision on the M5.

The M5 was finally reopened to traffic this afternoon after the vehicles and debris had been cleared.

Johnson, meanwhile, will be back in Yeovil tomorrow for the final preparations ahead of Saturday’s clash with Forest at Huish Park – kick-off 3pm.

His absence today meant that the normal Thursday press conference was cancelled and will now take place tomorrow instead.
