Matt Cahill survives X Factor sing-off

CONGRATULATIONS go to South Somerset singer Matt Cahill and his fellow band members of Kingsland Road after progressing through to the next round of ITV talent show X Factor.

Matt, 25, of Chard, and his boy band members had to keep their nerve on last night’s live show as they found themselves in the sing-off with solo singer Shelley Smith.

Kingsland Road had found that they been voted bottom in the public vote on Saturday, but it was not until last night’s show that they found out that they would be up against Shelley in the head-to-head showdown – the outcome of which was decided by judges/mentors Gary Barlow, Louis Walsh, Sharon Osbourne and Nicole Scherzinger.Matt Cahill survives X Factor sing-off

Barlow, mentor of Kingsland Road, had said it had been a “big shock” to find his act in the bottom two and that he “wouldn’t have changed anything about their performance” on the Saturday night show.

Kingsland Road opened the head-to-head with a version of Pink’s track Try, while Shelley performed Sam Brown’s Stop.

The outcome was never in doubt, however, as Kingsland Road gained the support of three of the four judges which meant they were through to the next round and it was the end of the road for Shelley.
