Skittles: Marston Boys shine on opening week in Yeovil Sports League

THE new 2013-14 season in the Yeovil Sports Skittles League got underway and the star team of the opening week of fixtures was last year’s Division Five runners-up Marston Boys.

Superbly led by stand-in captain  Dave Moysey (63) and backed-up by C. Dawson-Bishop (62) and four others in the 50s they amassed the huge totalof 422 to thrash Able Eight by 60 pins in Division Four.

Last year’s Division Five champions, Misfits, also got off to a winning start with an eight-pin away win over Gangbangers.

Division Five newcomers Oakers began with a 22-pin away win over Rams. Somerset Sports had a good 45-pin win over Booker Basics.

Elite and Flung Together, who together both just missed out on promotion last term, also started well with wins over Playboys and Labour Club respectively.

Division One champions Hammers began their title defence with a 39-pin win over Newboys. ODS also had a good away win at Bradford Outcasts.

Neil Musson’s 58 for Easy Boys was the top nomination score of the week, but Yellow Wagtail B still won by 11 pins.

In Division Two, league vice-chairman Mark Gold hit a fine 54 for Casuals, but Occasionals beat them by 13 pins.

Incredibles, last year’s Division Three champions, were well beaten by Yeovil SCB by 33 pins.

In Division Three, Old Barn Club had an excellent away win over Air United, as did Pacemakers who won by 30 pins away to Screwballs thanks to league president Alan Macgregor who hit 55.
