Football: Sheffield Wednesday 1, Yeovil Town 1: Glovers move out of bottom three

A BATTLING performance from Yeovil Town saw them gain a point this afternoon (Saturday, September 14) in a 1-1 draw at Sheffield Wednesday.

Yeovil went behind in the 25th minute in controversial fashion when match official Geoff Eltringham ignored his assistant flag-waving for offside which resulted in Atdhe Nuhiu scoring.Football: Sheffield Wednesday 1, Yeovil Town 1: Glovers move out of bottom three

The Glovers’ were then reduced to ten-men in the 41st minute when centre-half Byron Webster was sent-off for throwing a punch at Nuhiu.

But Yeovil rallied and really stepped up the pressure on Wednesday.

Striker James Hayter was sacrificed by Yeovil for substitute Liam Fontaine to move into the back four to take Webster’s position and the Bristol City loanee put in a solid performance.

It was another of Yeovil’s loan players who salvaged a point for the Glovers when midfielder Joe Ralls, of Cardiff City, used great skill to score a superb equaliser.

Sheffield Wednesday are still looking for their first win of the season, while Yeovil deserved at least a point for the efforts they showed during the afternoon.

Barnsley’s 3-2 defeat at Nottingham Forest saw them move down to third from bottom with Yeovil moving up to 21st position on four points – level with Sheffield Wednesday, BirminghamCity and Barnsley.

Around 300 Yeovil fans were at Hillsborough this afternoon for the Glovers’ match in an overall crowd of 22,328.
